YOUNGSTOWN
The average price for gasoline across Northeast Ohio is 4 cents lower this week at $3 per gallon, according to AAA East Central’s Gas Price Report.
Despite the decline, prices in the region are ending the year more than 70 cents higher than this time last year, a news release states.
The average price for unleaded self-service gasoline in the Youngstown area is $3.03 per gallon.
Groundbreaking set for new DQ Grill & Chill in Boardman
BOARDMAN — A groundbreaking ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday for a new DQ Grill & Chill eatery at 6532 Market St.
Ray and Chrissy Smith of Canfield own the DQ at 6120 Market St. and will relocate the franchise three blocks south of the current location. The new DQ will feature a dual lane drive-thru.
“It’s a great location because we are not leaving the community that has grown to love the nostalgia of the current location,” Chrissy Smith said in a news release. “It’s still really close to the current store. It’s also directly across the street from Akron Children’s Hospital, which has great benefits with families and children, which is our target market.
“Akron Children’s Hospital has been our chosen charitable organization for years, and we feel that the proximity and the addition of the drive-thru to the facility should help us to help them when we host events such as Miracle Treat Day, which benefit Akron Children’s Hospital.”
The Smith’s also own DQs in Cornersburg, Austintown, Canfield and Columbiana. They expect the new eatery to be open by fall 2022.
Canfield High School teacher earns Diamond Coach Award
CANFIELD — The National Speech & Debate Association recently announced that Jeremy Hamilton, a math teacher and director of speech and debate at Canfield High School, has earned the Diamond Coach Award, which recognizes a professional career that combines excellence and longevity in speech and debate education.
This is Hamilton’s third Diamond Award.
All Diamond Award winners will be recognized at the National Speech & Debate Tournament in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in June. More than 10,000 students, coaches and parents from across the nation attend the national tournament every year, a news release states.
“Our Diamond Award winners provide access to the life changing benefits of speech and debate for thousands of students,” J. Scott Wunn, National Speech & Debate executive director, said in the release. “We are proud to recognize these educators for their service, and thank them for their hard work.”
