ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) – The Ector County Sheriff’s Department will have over 30 new cars in their fleet.
The cars the department is currently using are worn out with some needing new engines.
27 Tahoes and 8 Sedans are included in their new cars. Sheriff Mike Griffis says these new cars will help make his department more modern.
“We’re trying to bring the sheriff’s office into the 21st century,” Sheriff Griffis said. “and we hope to be able to service our public to the best of our ability and we’re hoping this new equipment will help us do so.”
The department was able to purchase the new vehicles through community donations as well as seizure funds. It has taken over a year to get the Tahoes in because of Covid but the sheriff is hoping to have the Dodge Chargers will be in in the next couple of months.
The department hopes these new cars will help cut down on yearly service costs as well as help keep their deputies safe.
