An Ector County Independent School District press release detailed the Texas High School Coaches Association announced Permian High School was named one of the State Finalists of Texas for the 2021-22 National Football Foundation National High School Academic Excellence Award.
The award is the first nationwide recognition honoring individual high school football teams for excellence in the classroom with a 3.0 or above grade point average. Thirty state high school associations, including Texas, are currently participating across the country.
THSCA honored 84 high schools in Texas as State Finalists for the NFF National High School Academic Excellence Award. Permian High School was 1 of just 29 high schools in Class 6A to be named a finalist.
“Academic success is as important as athletic success,” Joe Martin, the Executive Director of the Texas High School Coaches Association, stated in the press release. “as it can take student-athletes to the next step in their lives and on the path to becoming successful citizens. This is a team-oriented award that promotes team-building traits, and we are proud to have 84 schools qualify as state finalists.”
“Permian High School is honored to have earned recognition as one of the State Finalist for the 2021-22 National Football Foundation High School Academic Excellence Award,” Permian High School Principal Dr. Delesa Styles stated in the press release. “With the award being the first nationwide recognition to honor individual high school football teams for their academic excellence, it is truly an accomplishment to represent Texas as a finalist. This is a direct tribute to the teamwork and combined efforts of Permian’s hardworking coaches, teachers, student-athletes, and their parents. Congratulations!”
On Tuesday at 12:30 p.m., ECISD Superintendent Dr. Scott Muri will address the team and congratulate the players for earning this honor. He will speak to them in the PHS Indoor Practice Facility.
Last Friday, Cypress Woods High School was announced as the Texas state champion. In conjunction with Super Bowl week, the National Football Foundation will announce the National Champion of the NFF National High School Academic Excellence Award.
